Why therapy?

You may come to therapy because you feel lost, alone, angry, confused, empty, fearful, betrayed, or hopeless. Or not.

You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, unwanted thoughts and feelings, addictions, shame, or guilt. Or not.

You may come to therapy because you want to understand how your early experiences are shaping your life. Or you may be curious about the therapeutic process, more generally. Or not.

You may have many reasons or you may have no reasons, at all. It doesn’t matter. Each individual comes to therapy with their own, unique interior world, and my job will be to discover and understand that world.

What happens during a session?

We will talk.  I will ask you questions about your life and your experiences, and I will listen closely to what you tell me.

I offer a safe, calm, empathic environment in which you are encouraged to speak openly and be your whole self, in any and every form. I especially want to know and understand the aspects of your nature that are muted, or hidden – I will always invite you to bring all of your thoughts and emotions “into the room.”

But please know that you alone will decide how our sessions unfold, and you alone will decide what we talk about, and when.

I hope to create, with you, a space in which you’re able to talk about the feelings and experiences that are most fundamental to who you are. I recognize that the work of doing so could be delicate, and painful. But I hope that we will build a relationship rooted in exploration, curiosity, clarity, gentleness, mutuality, and trust.

What I can and cannot promise

I cannot promise that you will immediately like therapy. I cannot promise that you will feel instantly comfortable, although I hope we will be able to work on that, together.

But I can promise the following:

  • I will listen to you, and follow your lead.

  • I will be curious.

  • I will accept your feelings.

  • I will strive to help you feel safe.

  • I will keep everything you tell me in the strictest confidence.

  • I will strive to practice from a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, client-centred, trauma-informed framework.

If you would like to see if we would work well together, I offer a free initial 30-minute consultation.

My current rate is $100 for a 50-minute session. I require 24 hours’ notice for cancellation.
